Muslim Celebrations
Muslims practice Islam a monotheistic religion based on the teachings of the prophet Muhammad (7th century). Muhammad lived during the 7th century. The word Islam means “submission”. It is the total surrender of oneself to God. There are between 1 billion to 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide and the second largest religion.
Holidays are based around the life of the Muhammad. The Islamic calender mostly follows the lunar cycles; however, the sects of Islam, Sunni and Shia, vary in the way it is interpreted. The two main holidays are Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha.
