A MOTHER'S
GARDEN
by Val Magnuson
Just beneath the window pane
A moment
in time is suspended
Within a glass frame
Under a blossoming, graceful
tangerine branch
A mother's garden flowers dance
Tones of buttercup,
heather and periwinkle blue
Are sweetly embroidered in fragrant
hues
Amongst them tiny finches flew
All glistened with the morning
dew
As the mother tenderly cared for her garden with love
High above
earth's muddy breast
An angel watched from above
And called her
home
Too soon!
Too soon!
Just as the fragrant lilacs bloomed
The
mother had planted perennial love
In her childrens' souls
And as her
tangerine tree and flowers grow
Each son and each daughter somehow
knows
That Heaven's Garden is grander this year
Because their mother's
heart is near
2001
