Batik Painting

Batik is part of the history of many
African tribes. The tribes use different materials, cassava paste is used by a
tribe in Southern Nigeria and the tribes in Senegal use a rice paste. Batik is
the process of resist dying and it typically refers to the large bold patterns
that are created as well. Fabric or paper is "painted" with melted wax. The
material is then dyed and later the wax is
removed.

Draw a design lightly in
pencil on your paper.
Melt wax.
Paint the areas you want to remain Using
hot wax, paint the areas you want to keep from the paint.
Paint your
canvas.
Allow to dry completely.
Using the hot wax, paint the area you
want to remain this color.
Paint your canvas.
Allow to dry
completely.
Continue process until done to your satisfaction.
Allow to dry
completely
Using an old iron covered in a cloth, iron the canvas to remove
the wax.
