National Popcorn Daypopcorn
by W.Holidays

January 19

Popcorn has been around for 5,000 years. Archaeologists and researchers believe it to be the oldest of a group of five sweet corns.  The others are Indian corn, pod corn, sweet corn, and field corn.  Popcorn originated in Mexico but quickly spread globally.  Popcorn ears over 5,600 years old were found in New Mexico in 1948 and 1950, they are the oldest ears of popcorn known.  Today, Americans eat over one billion pounds of popcorn per year; translating to seventeen and a half billion quarts.
