National Peach Melba Day
January 13
Peach Melba was created in the late 1800s by French
chef Escoffier for Dame Nellie Melba, a popular Australian opera singer. It is a
concoction consisting of peach halves (poached in syrup), filled with vanilla
ice cream, then topped with melba sauce (a raspberry sauce).
