National Bloody Mary Day

Bloody MaryJanuary 1

The Bloody Mary is a popular morning cocktail made with vodka and tomato juice.  It may also have  various spices and flavorings.  Though typically garnished with a celery stalk, it may also have a skewer of assorted vegetables or a large shrimp.  Many people believe drinking one will help with a hangover.

Some variations:
Bloody Bishop 
        Sherry replaces the vodka.
Bloody Fairy, Red Fairy 
        Absinthe 
 replaces the vodka.
Bloody Geisha 
        Sake 
 replaces the vodka.
Bloody Maria 
        Tequila 
 replaces the vodka.
Bloody Pirate 
        Dark rum 
 replaces the vodka.
Bloody Scotsman 
        Scotch 
 replaces the vodka.


Bloody Mary
1-1/2 oz. vodka 
3 oz. tomato juice 
1 dash lemon juice 
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 
2-3 drops Tabasco sauce 
1 wedge lime 

Shake all ingredients (except lime wedge) with ice and strain into an old-fashioned glass over ice cubes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add the wedge of lime and serve.

Bloody Mary not your style? Try one of these!

Bloody Mary Jolly
1/2 glass hot and spicy V8 juice 
1/2 glass Clamato juice 
1 pinch horseradish 
1 dash Worcestershire sauce 
1 dash Tabasco sauce 
1 tsp olive juice 
1 pinch celery salt 
1 pinch pepper 
1 shot vodka, optional

Add together in a glass, and stir. Garnish with a lemon or lime wedge, chunk of cheese and an olive.

Bloody Maria
1 oz. Tequila 
2 oz. tomato juice 
1 dash lemon juice 
1 dash Tabasco sauce 
1 dash celery salt 
1 slice lemon 

Shake all ingredients (except lemon slice) with cracked ice and strain into an old-fashioned glass over ice cubes. Add the slice of lemon and serve.
