This is a poem for my step father Lester
Gordon, a man above any other.
When I was a child fatherless and very
much alone,
You met my mother and became a living tribute to our home,
When i was a child I did not understand how desperately around us we needed
a man
I remember before you came to be,
my mothers tears as she asked
the question of how would she afford to feed me
I remember the awe upon your
face of the day I first ran to you for a fatherly embrace
I recall you
always being there for me to be my unmovable mountain and to give sympathy
Thru my teen years I did not understand I said many cruel things to you
and refused to hold your hand
As I grew into a woman and bore children
of my own
I realize how important it is to have a father at home
Someone
strong in a gentle way,
Someone to kiss the scrapes and bruises away,
After all you have been thru you have remained at our side
You have
become more then my father
you are my pride!
