Dyeing Eggs Naturally

skill level: easiest
cost: under $5
craft time: 30 minutes or more

raw eggs
water
distilled vinegar
dye ingredient, listed below

Lay eggs in a single layer in a pan.
Pour water in pan until the eggs are covered.
Add two teaspoons of distilled vinegar.
Add the natural dye ingredient for the color you want your eggs to be.
The more you use the darker your eggs will be, less the eggs will be lighter.
Bring water to a boil, cover, remove from heat and let sit for 15 minutes.
Remove the coloring ingredient (onion skins, carrots, etc.) you used to color the eggs, leave the colored water.
Put eggs in a bowl and cover them with the natural dye and let them stand in the refrigerator until desired color has been reached.

pink/red: red onion skins, fresh beets or use cranberry juice in place of the water
yellow: turmeric
orange/tan: yellow onion skins, carrots
light yellow: orange and lemon peels, carrot peelings and tops
mint green: spinach leaves or another dark green leafy vegetable
lavender/blue: red cabbage leaves or use grape juice instead of water
violet: violet blossoms
brown: tea or coffee granules
