Samhain (Sow-inn) is the word for November in Gaelic.  The Festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season.  It begins the dark half of the year.  It is a time when the deceased are remembered and honored, the autumn harvest is reaped, and the preparation for winter begins.  Samhain is also consider the The Celtic New Year.

Herbs and flowers associated with Samhain: acorn, oak, apple, arborvitae, chrysanthemum, hazel, pumpkin, sage, thistle, and wormwood.

Incense associated with Samhain: apple, nutmeg, sage, and mint.

Colors associated with Samhain: yellow, orange, brown, black.

Gemstones associated with Samhain: turquoise, sodalite, citrine, moonstones and hematite.

Decorations associated with Samhain: pumpkins, apples, autumn leaves and flowers, winter squash, and photos and objects of deceased loved ones.

Foods associated with Samhain: apples, cider, nuts, mulled wine, pumpkin, cranberry, and tea.
