Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Lent is the forty day period before Easter, excluding Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday. Easter falls on the Sunday that coincides with the first Sunday after the full moon following the Spring Equinox.
