Dia de la Cruz
by W.Holidays
May 3
The Day of the Cross is celebrated by decorating
crosses with fresh flowers and shells. The crosses also adorn a symbolic pair of
open scissors and many include a half-smoked cigar, a chair, a glass of
sherry, and an apple. People dress in flamenco and gypsy clothing. Everyone
partakes in drinking and dancing (even in the streets). The celebration has
roots in a pagan ritual to celebrate the end of winter.
