Mother Goose Day
by W.Holidays
May 1
Mother Goose is
a author of popular fairy tales and nursery rhymes. However, the
identity of Mother Goose is still a mystery. It is believe that
Mother Goose has been several people (both she's and he's) throughout
time. The term "Mother Goose" was found in the Loret's 1650 La
Muse Historique. The line Comme un conte de la Mere Oye ("Like a
Mother Goose story") appeared.
In 1695, Charles Perrault published a collection of fairy tales which
included "The Sleeping Beauty," "Little Red Riding Hood," and
"Cinderella." It was titled "Histoires ou contes du temps
passés, avec des moralités", but it was better known by
its subtitle "Contes de ma mère l'Oye" or "Tales of my Mother
Goose".
in 1987 by Gloria T. Delamar founded Mother Goose Day to coincide with
the publication of her book, "Mother Goose; From Nursery to Literature"
(MFarland Pub.).
