by W.Holidays

April 30

Walpurgisnacht or Walpurgis Night meaning Witches' Night is celebrated in Germany on April 30th.  On this eve of St. Walpurgis Day witches, demons, and the dead roam the earth, meet, and dance.
It is the night witches hold a large celebration on the Blocksberg (is the highest peak in the Harz Mountains in Germany).

The festival is named after Saint Walpurga who was born in Wessex in 710.  During her travels she was an English nun and missionary in Germany.  Se died on February 25th but here relics were transferred on May 1st and the day is named for her.

This holiday coincides with Beltane an ancient Celtic spring festival.
